The theme of the free spirit of man is quite common in Chekhov's work. So our characters - Nina Zarechnaya and Alexander Timofeyevich, leave for the capital, falling in love with each other and finding freedom in art. There, they fall into the whirlpool of "artificial" environments and false friendships.

But what happens when "freedom" leaves the spirit of man and causes the behavior to go awry, to be bold about the trivial creative expression and to live, accompanied by materialism, the "external", the kitsch, and the desire for loud glory? And all this at any cost.

On this occasion Chekhov would add: “I am so sorry for the people here - so unhappy are all, so lonely and so envy has ruined them all - a whole misery! Born slaves, everyone is silent, ready to kiss their feet and lick the heels of the superiors! How false and superfluous it is! ", And Nikolai Kolyada would add:" People of art are artificial. "

His well-deserved name and place in contemporary Russian culture - Nikolai Kolyada was called and compared as Chekhov of our time. Christmas speaks with uncompromising language about intrigue in theatrical environments, the lack of "culture" in culture, the performances of "one-day shows" and the need for criticism. And maybe today art just needs one?
